so the po confirmed what many on this board already know.
at latest round of co to elders meeting, the co quoted from the society outline.
any elder or ms who encourages college for his kids or others or who allows his children to go to college will no longer qualify.. he then asked if i was going to take the cos encouragement and reach out again to be an elder and get my hours on the ministry up.. i replied "i will never be an elder again - i strongly approve of further education and college and have been through college myself.

Is this just for the present and recent past?
I'm 37 and living on my own but my father allowed me to go to college when I got out of high school. It is well known in the congregation that I'm college educated.
My father is wanting to become an elder. I wonder if they're going to disqualify him. And if they don't allow him to become an elder, will they tell him why.
Then I wonder how my father will react. I see only 2 possibilities; 1) he'll be taken aback and maybe will start questioning the bOrg, or 2) he'll take the blame, and say that he should have been a better parent, and encouraged me more to not pursue wicked secular education. He'll then believe that he has been a failure, both as a parent but also as a JW.
I'll hope for 1 but I expect 2. Sad.
this magazine was disturbing to me at the time, but i lost track of it and only recently found it .
this is exactly as it was printed, no photo shop, i am not that clever.. it is credited to a newsagency, jan banning , panos pictures - so i do believe that she was a real child prostitute .
there is something that gets to me even now about this picture.
Did some JW photog in Bankok just snap the picture? Well, if so - the article should show how the WTBTS lifted her up out of this mess. If they did, for just her, then what about her younger sisters, and all of the other young kids everywhere?
Heh. I'm sure the WTBTS's "help" they gave her was the "life saving message and good news of Jehovah's kingdome."
Which of course is one way of saying they gave her and her family some literature and offered a bible study instead of actual help.
almost everyone who leaves the watchtower organization acknowledges the fact that the jehovahs witnesses leadership is quite masterful when it comes to using guilt as a means of motivation and coercion.
throughout the watchtower articles, convention talks, and talks given by traveling overseers, there are often statements woven into the material that are designed to evoke feelings of guilt in those who are not robotically falling in line with all organizational programs and group-think.
in addition to the many cliches, buzzwords, and catch-phrases used in watchtower material, the organization also makes comparisons between the field service activities of witnesses in one part of the world to another part of the world.
Spot on! And toxic parents often play one child against another. This is what the WTS does as well. They hold up examples of "exemplary service" of an individual, territory, or country and gush and gloat over them. Then they point out the faults of the audience's territories. It's the whole 'why can't you be more like your brother?' thing that dysfunctional parents use.
The deficient person then feels guilty, on the defensive, and brow beaten.
Yup. Makes perfect sense.
.
did you think you might "get contacted" somehow by those powerful demons?
did you avoid anything the society said was associated with demonism?.
Sure, when I still believed in all this crap and the spirit world. My mother used to say that she could tell if a householder was demonized.
"I started walking towards the door when I got goosebumps all over. I just felt 'dread' at the prospect of going any further up the walk so I turned around and left. Once I got back into the car, the feeling went away. It had to have been demons! Remember, if you feel scared for no apparent reason, that's demons!"
Good grief!
Now I know that every so-called demonic or sprit phenomena can be rationally explained. Even premonitions of danger.
The folks however still believe in them.
Also, here's what I never did understand. You were not supposed to 'test Jehovah' by purposely inviting demons to you and then driving them out. But, your average JW doesn't go around calling demons to them. So when a supposed demon attack occurs, shouldn't Jehovah step in and shoo them away? So all these devout JWs who reported demonic activity happening to them, how was that explained? A random demon attack? I thought demons only outright attack someone if they're challenged. I thought demons only "influenced." So if a demon attacks a JW, surely the demon knows the JW is going to start praying and calling the elders to them. Therefore, demonic attacks on JWs seemed to be a big waste of time for the demons.
Unless of course they don't exist. Then it becomes a matter of superstition, paranoia, and ignorance which can be expelled with logic and reason.
Demons = yet another way to keep JWs scared, ignorant, and controlled.
some may have seen this tid-bit being passed around in certain jw email circles.
a "deeply concerned" jw relative (who knows i have soured on the whole jw thing) emailed this to me in hopes that it would improve my attitude.
at first i was just going to thank them for their concern and for the "encourgaging" email, but then i decided i must respond to this.
Then the brother asked these questions: "Do you have the faith to follow the direction of the faithful and discreet slave in these last days even if you don't understand what they are asking and it seems as if you will die because the direction is illogical? Will you quickly obey and trust the channel Jehovah is using?" He told us to carefully meditate on that because we will be in a similar situation in the great tribulation where we will think we are facing death, but we need to obey quickly the directions given.
That is just downright scary. When the GB declares that Armageddon is here, it will be instructing the R&F what to do, when to do it, etc. They're saying 'do as we say or you'll die.'
I'm anticipating a huge tragedy.

bw.
I'm looking forward to a word for word transcription.
My folks e-mailed me the notes from Losch's talk in Hawaii and I was horrified at the highlights. It makes me angry and sad. Angry that GB members can run around making speeches like that and sad that the R&F eat it up.
hello guys!!.
i had the privilege of going to the special assembly day last saturday.
we had a bethel member giving the main speech.
I would LOVE an audio recording of one of those guys saying the reason education is not allowed is because of "exposure to non-bible ideas". Apologists are always claiming the reason is "bad association leading to all college students in drunken orgies".
MissingLink: That was the excuse years ago. "College was too dangerous". But we have ONLINE CLASSES now! So, they modified the excuse now: College Education promotes "anti-biblical ideas"...
Just imagine how many wasted brains we have inside the Organization...
Good point!!!! When I went to college, the elders heaped a ton of sh_t on my father's head because of being around worldly people indulging a hedonistic lifestyle.
But now, there are online classes where you never meet your classmates. So now it's modified to say college promotes "anti-biblical ideas."
They just might as come right out and say don't go to college in order that you may remain ignorant.
is there still enough room for scientists in the wt?.
16. do we hear valueless things being uttered today?
for example, some scientists say that evolutionary theory and scientific discoveries in other fields demonstrate that there is no longer any need to believe in god, that everything can be explained by natural processes.
Riddle me this, FDS (and I have a feeling you watch this board)
If Jehovah created everything, including natural laws (physics, etc.), and if Jehovah wants his creation to rejoice in what he has given them, why wouldn't he want his creation to study the very same natural laws that he created? Do you mean to tell us that an all-powerful, loving, benevolent being wouldn't want his children to get to know him better by examining the things they have been given? Why would a benevolent creator want his creation to be ignorant of him and his awe inspiring power?
Surely studying the universe would draw people closer to him. Who wouldn't be in awe of that? So why the big mystery as to why you, the FDS, want to Jehovah's children to be ignorant? Does it maybe suit your purposes better to discourage people against studying the world around them?
Tell me, what would happen if JWs stopped listening to you, or at least doubting your words? You tell everyone that day in, day out, that this it "the truth." So, if something is true, it cannot be untrue. If, as you say, science has got everything wrong, then it stands to reason (think about that phrase, GB) that science will collapse in front of "God's word."
Here's a problem though. Science hasn't collapsed. And, it often casts doubt on the existence of God.
And the word is spreading.
Perhaps this is why you are twisting your religion into an oppressor. You know your time is limited as despots.
